The Origin Of Earth

This collage is inspired by the Hindu myth of Maha-pudma, the elephant who supports the world while standing on the back of the tortoise Chukwa as she swims through Ksheera Sagara (the primordial ocean of milk).

Some notes on details: the background (at the bottom) is photos of Snowdonia (or Eryri in Welsh) and Wales is where my family come from. Although I've taken some artistic license in placing the earth above the moon, all life as we know it exists in the space between the earth and the moon. The boy has a heart for a head and the girl has a sun, two of the key factors for life. The globes across the top represent eggs and the fish following the curve of the elephant's trunk represent sperm. And the giant butterfly refers to the Butterfly Effect, the idea that all events are interconnected and related to one another.
